Abstract

Purpose We presented a case of isolated retinal macrocyst secondary to chronic retinal detachment. A novel surgical approach was described. Case presentation A 44-year-old woman presented with a isolated retinal macrocyst in the region of retinal detachment. An exscleral puncture and fluid drainage was performed with the assistance of 23G intraocular illumination. On the first postoperative day, the retina was reattachment and the macrocyst had completely resolved. One month after surgery, the retina was well restored and retinal macrocyst disappeared completely, which was verified by B-ultrasound. Conclusion Isolated retinal macrocyst is common in chronic retinal detachment. The extrascleral puncture under intraocular illumination is a selective surgical approach for this entity.
