Abstract

The objective of this study is to illuminate the relationship between entrepreneurship, disruptive technologies and well-being through the vision of Society 5.0 and Amartya Sen's capabilities approach. In this context, general well-being is considered a multidimensional construct founded on two main dimensions: quality of life and social well-being. Each is measured using aggregate indices that synthesise a number of different variables, allowing for an analytical and structured assessment of well-being. The importance of entrepreneurship and disruptive technologies is highlighted through the assessment of their respective effects on well-being. Specifically, this research explores the impact that entrepreneurship, together with artificial intelligence (AI), big data and next-generation broadband coverage, has on quality of life. It also examines the effects of entrepreneurship, together with AI, on social well-being.We use a sample of 17 European Union countries from 2019 to 2023 and the fixed effects panel data method. The results reveal that entrepreneurship together with disruptive technologies significantly improves both quality of life and social well-being, underscoring their positive contribution to multidimensional well-being.This study provides key insights for policymakers, guiding them in the design of strategies that foster entrepreneurship and the adoption of disruptive technologies in favourable environments. In this regard, it reveals that these factors not only drive innovation but are also fundamental to well-being that encompasses more than the creation of wealth.
