To meet the requirements of technical indicators, such as cluster group call and group handover delay, the Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband cluster defines a new air interface standard. In this standard, the cluster dedicated channel is introduced, the cluster Time Slot Reserved For Bursty Traffic (TSRB) and Time Slot For Periodic Traffic (TDRB) are added, the cluster MAC Protocol Data Unit (PDU) is added, the cluster dedicated paging message is added, and the Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection and reconfiguration message are modified. Unlike in the public LTE base station, aspects such as the air interface, algorithm, protocol flow, interface, and networking are changed considerably. Hence, it is necessary to study the key technologies of cluster base stations. Solutions based on research on the key technologies of clustered base stations are provided to complete the development of clustered base stations and the verification of large-scale networking. Thus, the subtopic of LTE clustered base station development includes three parts: research on the key technologies of LTE clustered base stations, research and development of LTE clustered base station equipment, and demonstration and verification of LTE clustered base stations. This paper examines the key technologies of LTE cluster base stations, proposes clear technical paths and research methods, and presents feasible technical indicators for LTE broadband cluster research.
