The continuous investigation of a copper (II) component that used in developing novel hydrogen-bonded metal-organic frameworks (HBMOFs). In this investigation, the copper (II) compound is reacted with phenethylamine, resulting in a complex containing a lamellar framework, which exist as a 6-coordinate copper (II) center. The use of the phenethylamine compound will afford an extended interlayer, when compared to previous (HBMOFs). This layered framework has the ability to include a variety of guest molecules, ranging from alkyl alcohols to benzyl alcohols. The discussion of four guest included hydrogen-bonded frameworks will be discussed herein and will be compared with an empty framework: (1) [phenethylammonium] 2 Cu(PDCA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 , (2) [phenethyllammonium] 2 Cu(PDCA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ·(1-pentanol), (3) [phenethylammonium] 2 Cu(PDCA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ·(1-hexanol), (4) [phenethylammonium] 2 Cu(PDCA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ·(benzyl alcohol), (5) [phenethylammonium] 2 Cu(PDCA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ·(4-chlorobenzyl alcohol).
