The discourse construction of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future by Vietnamese media

The concept of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future represents a pivotal aspect of bilateral relations between the two nations. Drawing on a corpus of 239 Vietnamese media reports, this study employs critical discourse analysis to investigate the framing strategies and underlying sentiments in Vietnamese news coverage concerning this shared future. The research seeks to uncover how Vietnamese media shape and interpret the discourse surrounding this bilateral vision. Findings reveal a spectrum of reporting attitudes, with predominantly affirmative and neutral tones dominating the coverage, while negative portrayals remain marginal. However, certain one-sided narratives warrant attention and rebuttal. The study underscores the necessity of a balanced and objective understanding of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future, emphasizing the strategic importance of tailored, adaptable approaches in crafting external discourse—particularly in navigating complex regional dynamics.In light of shifting global and systemic paradigms, this research offers fresh insights into bilateral relations, advocating for enhanced media collaboration between Vietnam and China. By leveraging media platforms, both nations can reinforce shared values and mutual interests, fostering a more cohesive narrative.
