This study investigates the effect of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-supported virtual learning environments (VLEs) on enhancing student motivation, interaction, and deep understanding, as well as developing instructional design skills among graduate students in an e-learning design course. The study was conducted amid rapid digital transformation in education that necessitates rethinking traditional learning methods and adopting innovative models. A one-group quasi-experimental design was employed with 17 graduate students at a Palestinian university, collecting both quantitative (survey) and qualitative (interaction analysis) data on four key variables. The findings revealed positive impacts of using integrated VLE platforms on students’ interaction levels, motivation toward learning, depth of understanding of course concepts, and growth in AI-supported instructional design skills. These results provide valuable insights for educators and instructional designers on leveraging technology to improve the quality of higher education in the field of educational technology.
