This paper describes the modeling of an electrical transformer taking into account the saturation of the magnetic core material. Our transformer model is described by two coupled nonlinear differential equations and presents advantages because the entire magnetizing characteristics can be directly obtained from only three measured values (Saturation flux density, remanence flux density, and coercive magnetic field). In the second part of the work, the model has been used to simulate three different transformers namely a power transformer, a distribution transformer, and a small transformer. The simulated results are in excellent agreement with the values provided by the manufacturers. For more verification, the dynamics of an RLC series circuit containing a small transformer are investigated theoretically and experimentally in the last part. The circuit provides regular and chaotic regimes when supplied with a square voltage source. An excellent agreement is found between our numerical results and experimental ones.
