Abstract

Tibial plateau fractures, particularly high energy fractures (Schatzker type V and VI), are among the most complex intra- articular fractures often associated with extensive soft tissue injuries and compromise knee joint functions. While open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) has been considered the standard approach, some recent evidences have highlighted the advantages of external hybrid fixation (EHF), especially in with soft tissue compromise. This focused systematic review evaluates the effectiveness and safety of external hybrid fixation in managing these fracture types from three high quality studies. The findings support the use of external hybrid fixators for early mobilization, soft tissue preservation, and lower complication rates in selected patients.
