Background The situation of an ageing population is increasing, Thailand has become a complete aged society. Therefore, we need to prepare for these older populations. This study explored the 10-year trend of the ageing in place index among older adults in Thailand. Methods A cross sectional study, using data from four rounds of the Survey of Older Persons (2011, 2014, 2017, and 2021) conducted by the National Statistical Office. The analysis, based on respondents aged 60 and over, employed the Aggregate Z-score method to assess ageing in place. Results Findings revealed an overall upward trend, with the index improving from a moderate level in 2011 to a high level in 2021. When disaggregated by components: (1) Place remained at a moderate level throughout; (2) Social networks consistently scored high; (3) Support was not specified in detail; (4) Technology showed a positive shift from moderate to high; and (5) Personal characteristics declined from high to moderate. These results suggest that Thailand’s older population has become increasingly ready to age in place, particularly due to stronger social connections and growing technological access. Conclusion The study supports policy recommendations emphasizing the importance of preparing home and community environments to serve as central foundations for ageing in place, ensuring that older persons can live independently and with dignity in familiar settings.
