Abstract

This paper presents a MATLAB/Simulink model of a photovoltaic (PV) panel based on the Three-Diode Model (TDM). Accurate modeling of PV panels is essential for the effective design and operation of photovoltaic power systems. To enhance modeling precision, researchers have proposed the TDM, which offers a more detailed representation of PV losses. The TDM is a nonlinear and complex model comprising nine unknown parameters. Among these, four parameters (the photocurrent and the saturation currents of the three diodes) were calculated and used to determine the total diode current. In this study, the proposed MATLAB/Simulink model is applied to two types of PV panels: the multicrystalline KC200GT and the monocrystalline CS6K280M. The current-voltage (I–V) and power-voltage (P–V) characteristic curves generated by the model are plotted and compared with the corresponding datasheet values under varying levels of solar irradiance and operating temperatures. As the results, this model is efficient and can be applicable to find the characteristic curves for any PV panel.
