Abstract

Mobile phone addiction has become a growing concern in today’s digital age, particularly among students. This study explores the relationship between family environment and mobile phone addiction among Secondary school students. A sample of 80 students (40 male and 40 female) was selected using simple random sampling technique. Family environment scale developed by Harpreet Bhatia and N.K. Chadha (1993) and mobile phone addiction scale standardized A. Velayudhan and S. Srividya’s (2012) were used to collect the data. Results indicate that students with a more positive family environment tend to exhibit lower levels of phone addiction. Female students generally reported better family environments, while males showed higher levels of phone addiction. The study highlights the significant role of family dynamics in influencing students’ mobile phone use, suggesting that a supportive family environment can help reduce phone addiction.
