Abstract

The Indian banking sector faces persistent concerns due to loan recovery and losses, a trend since 1980. The CAMEL model has proven effective in tracking bank performance, evaluating financial stability, safety, and efficiency. This project examines the application and role of the CAMELS model in supervising State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). It identifies the merits and demerits of the CAMELS system using secondary data analyzed in MS Excel. The study, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, posits that the CAMELS rating system is beneficial for Indian banks, aiding audits, performance comparisons, and on-site/off-site evaluations.
