This study aimed to investigate the use of composite laminates and fabrics for various impact-related applications, focusing on ballistic textiles and body armor. We analyzed the complex mechanical process of ballistic impacts, which depend on factors such as projectile parameters, material strength, ductility, and toughness. An analytical and computational investigations of various ballistic textiles and composites were performed to identify their performance characteristics and potential for use in body armor and other impact-related applications. We used a combination of analytical and computational tools to analyze the performance of ballistic textiles and composites. The methodology included ballistic testing, and the characterization of mechanical properties. The results indicated that certain tough fibers with high strength-to-modulus ratios show potential for use in ballistic applications; however, their performance is highly dependent on the specific parameters of the material and the application. This study affords valuable insight into the performance characteristics of various ballistic textiles and composites, along with their potential for use in body armor and other impact-related applications. These findings have implications for engineering practice, particularly in the design of protective gear for law enforcement and military personnel.
