Abstract

BACKGROUND: Intense pulsed light is widely used in cosmetic techniques. When IPL is flashed into people’s eyes, it can be dangerous and cause serious eye damage. Case presentation: A 30-year-old male patient suffered an 808±10 nm IPL injury to his eye. One week after the injury, the patient’s peripheral residual best-corrected visual acuity in the right eye was 20/200 with a refractive power of −4.00/−0.25×20=0.1. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed a full macular tear. The patient underwent vitrectomy, inner border membrane stripping and sterile air injection 1 month after injury. OCT showed fissure closure 1 week after surgery. However, his best-corrected visual acuity did not improve at 1-month post-operative follow-up. CONCLUSION: This case report is comprehensive.
