Abstract

Background : Sleep quality and mental health play pivotal role in overall well-being, especially for university students who frequently encounter academic, social, and personal challenges. This study aims to explore how compulsive internet use mediates the relationship between depressive symptoms and sleep quality among Qatar University students. Method: This study utilized a cross-sectional design to examine the relationship between depressive symptoms, compulsive internet use, and sleep quality among Qatar University students. 750 participants were recruited through convenient sampling, and data were collected via an online survey. Validated psychological scales were used to assess depressive symptoms, compulsive internet use, and sleep quality. The collected date were analyzed using descriptive tests, Pearson correlation, and path analysis. Results : Findings revealed that compulsive internet use significantly impacts both sleep quality and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, the results highlighted its critical mediating role in the relationship between sleep quality and depressive symptoms, underscoring its influence on overall well-being. Conclusion : These findings underscore the pivotal role of compulsive internet use as a mediator, highlighting the necessity of targeted interventions to regulate internet use behaviors, enhance sleep quality, and mitigate depressive symptoms among university students.
