Abstract

People in the West Bank of Palestine use groundwater, as the main source of water, representing almost 90% of the total water supply. Water quality index (WQI) is one of the most effective tools to communicate information on the quality of water to the concerned citizens and policy makers. Water quality index was used as a tool to assess water quality of the private dug wells in Hebron district. This study reveals that 2.7% of the tested wells have excellent water class, 14.7% has good class, 28% of wells were located in poor water quality class, and 25.3% were located in unfit for direct use class.
