There is a growing body of research supporting the efficacy of single-pilot virtual reality flight simulators (VRFSs) as a supplement to traditional pilot training methods. These immersive technologies offer several advantages over conventional training simulators, including versatility, mobility, and reduced size and cost. However, commercial pilot operations typically involve at least two pilots working as a team, yet research on collaborative VRFSs for multi-crew training remains limited and underexplored. This exploratory study builds upon the scarce existing research on collaborative VRFSs and examines their suitability for learning, with a particular focus on multi-crew training. The findings suggest that the collaborative environment contributes to learning, paving the way for future research. However, the study also highlights current technological limitations that may hinder the widespread adoption of collaborative VRFSs in pilot training.
