Abstract

In this article, the asymptotic performance of a mixed dual-hop power line communication/free-space optical communication (PLC - FSO) transmission system with decode and forward (DF) relaying protocol is analyzed. This system assumes that the PLC link experiences log-normal fading under the effects of additive background and impulsive noise and that the FSO link is Gamma - Gamma distribution with pointing errors. For this relay-based system, a novel asymptotic expression is derived for outage probability and average bit error rate to analyze performance in high SNR. Also, analyze the upper-bound ergodic capacity of the proposed system.
