Game-based approaches have emerged as innovative tools in architectural and design education, enhancing student engagement and motivation. While related literature highlights their benefits, gaps remain in assessing their long-term effectiveness, integration, and scalability. This study examines the current state of game-based learning in design education, identifying research gaps, key challenges, and future directions. Findings suggest that while these approaches boost short-term engagement, further empirical studies are needed to evaluate their sustained impact on creativity, problem-solving, and cognitive development. The lack of standardized pedagogical frameworks hinders effective curriculum integration, and interdisciplinary collaboration could enhance knowledge exchange across related fields. Future research should develop structured game-based models, conduct longitudinal studies, and explore emerging technologies like AI and data analytics for personalized learning. Additionally, strategies for large-scale adoption and applications beyond academia, such as professional training and participatory design, warrant further investigation. This study advances the discourse on game-based learning in architectural education, providing a roadmap for optimizing its integration and maximizing pedagogical benefits.
