Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent pregnancy remains a public health concern with diverse serious consequences for the individual, the family and society as a whole. During the period of adolescence, one area of concern is their sexual and reproductive health. Adolescents face a lot of problems regarding their sexuality and reproductive lives. In Ghana, adolescent pregnancy contributes to about 9% of maternal mortality. This study soughtto determine the factors associated with adolescent pregnancy in the Ningo-Prampram district of Geater Accra. Methods: The study adopted a quantitative approach. A total of thirty-four (34) questions were administered to two hundred and forty-six (246) adolescent girls who residents in the Ningo-Prampram district were. The results were presented in frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation andchi-square test. Logistic regression models were used to identify independent factors associated with pregnancy among adolescent girls. Results: The study found that variables such as age (p=0.03), educational level (p=0.03), marital status (p<0.01) and parental care (p<0 . 01) had a significant association with adolescent pregnancy. The other covariates were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Age, educational level, marital status and parental care of adolescent girls were significantly associated with adolescent pregnancy in Ningo-Prampram.
