The research study focuses on comparing the access of university students to face-to-face and distance learning and contributes to the discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of both forms of higher education in the 21st century. The study maps students' attitudes towards distance learning and compares them with data from a study conducted earlier in face-to-face learning. Results showed that the risk factors for failure identified in the face-to-face learning were more pronounced in the distance learning. Distance learning does not bring different types of difficulties to students compared to face-to-face learning, but rather some new learning barriers and also changes the importance of each difficulty from the students' perspective and the frequency of occurrence.
