Causes and disparities in death rates among residents in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, China 2014-2021

Backgrounds: This study aims to analyses the changing trends in causes of death in residents from Lanzhou, to provide references for the formulation of disease prevention and control measures.Methods: The work used data on deaths of all Lanzhou residents from 2014 to 2021, analysing the most common leading causes of death and corresponding single-disease causes of death by age and sex. The analysis of death trends has been carried out with the use of joinpoint models. The Annual Percentage Change (APC) for each segment of broken lines and standardized death rates (SDRs) were calculated.Results: The top five leading causes of death are disease of the circulatory system (ischemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, hypertensive diseases), neoplasms (lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer), and disease of the respiratory system (COPD, bronchitis, influenza and pneumonia), injury (transport accidents, falls, intentional self-harm) and endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disease (diabetes, malnutrition and metabolic disorders).Conclusions: The top three leading causes of death are different in age groups, but there are no gender differences.
