Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Multidisciplinary Virtual Clinic for Post-ICU Survivors: A Prospective Observational Study Protocol

The global ICU patient survival rate has increased dramatically due to advancements in critical care practices and technology; yet, post-ICU survivors frequently struggle with post-ICU syndrome (PICS), significantly affecting their overall health and well-being (Needham et al., 2012). The lack of structured post-ICU care in Saudi Arabia, coupled with a growing aging population and the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, highlights the urgency of establishing innovative healthcare solutions. This protocol introduces a multidisciplinary virtual (tele) post-ICU follow-up clinic designed to address the unmet needs of ICU survivors. The clinic employs advancements in telemedicine, digital health, and multidisciplinary care to deliver comprehensive, accessible, and cost-effective support. Objectives include improving survivors' quality of life, reducing healthcare utilization, and enhancing care equity. Quantitative and qualitative methods will assess outcomes such as quality of life, cognitive and psychological recovery, and healthcare cost savings. This initiative not only addresses a critical gap in the healthcare system but also aligns with national goals to improve health outcomes and life expectancy.
