The Mediating Role of Psychological Contract Breach in the Influence of Leader-Member Exchange on Quiet Quitting Among Coaches

Background: The research is intended to clarify the relationship among leader-member exchange (LMX) quiet quitting and psychological contract breach variables grounded in social exchange theory which explains the motivations individuals exhibit in reciprocal relationships. Additionally it seeks to elucidate the mediating function of psychological contract breach in the association between LMX and quiet quitting. Methods: The research model was evaluated using regression and mediation analyses on data obtained from 294 coaches. Results: The research findings indicate that LMX diminishes the perception of psychological contract breach. This finding indicates that coaches with robust LMX will experience diminished perceptions of psychological contract breach subsequently reducing their quiet quitting behaviors. Ethics approval number: 244222 date of registration: 17/11/2023 Conclusion: LMX adversely impacts psychological contract breach and quiet quitting whereas psychological contract breach positively influences quiet quitting. Furthermore the perception of psychological contract breach mediates the relationship between LMX and quiet quitting.
