How Bronze Drum Patterns Influence Chinese Art and Cultural Identity: A systematic literature review

Since the bronze drum custom was rated as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, the research on bronze drum patterns and Chinese art and cultural identity has continued to increase. However, previous research still needs to be completed. No research comprehensively reviews the influence of bronze drum patterns on Chinese art and cultural identity. Given this, this study adopts a systematic literature review method to highlight the latest status of these studies. It studies the latest published and screens 29 studies on the influence of bronze drum patterns on Chinese art and cultural identity in four databases: Scopus, Google Scholar, ProQuest and CNKI. The research findings are as follows: (1) The way bronze drum patterns influence the cultural identity of Chinese art focuses more on innovation and integration in modern art, followed by the profound connotation of ethnic and regional cultural symbols and the significance of cultural symbols. (2) The research on bronze drum patterns on Chinese art and cultural identity tends to be more inclined to design research in the research field; the research content tends to be more inclined to bronze drum culture, bronze drum patterns and application research on value and design; in terms of research methods, case studies are the majority, followed by qualitative research. Based on the above literature review, a valuable future agenda is provided regarding the research field, content, and methods, thus providing theoretical support for the more profound development of this research direction.
