Abstract

Ensuring the safety of foundation bearings in slope engineering poses a significant challenge. This study uses numerical simulations and slip line field theory to construct a mathematical model for strip footing near a slope. It employs the limit equilibrium block analysis to propose an estimation formula for the ultimate bearing capacity and a safety zoning method for strip footing near a slope, considering multiple factors such as slope shape, foundation, and load. The results indicated that (1) when the slope fails due to the foundation load, it exhibits a failure mode of initial constant velocity shear followed by a dominant slip to the free side. (2) This research proposes a multi-factor evaluation formula for the ultimate bearing capacity of strip footing near a slope, which can be calculated directly and is convenient for engineering applications. (3) As slope characteristic parameters remain constant, the ultimate bearing capacity decreases with an increase in slope angle and foundation width, and it increases with an increase in distance from footing to the top of the slope, cohesion, and internal friction angle. In addition, the spatial safety zoning evaluation method of strip footing near a slope is established, providing a reference and theoretical basis for engineering practice.
