Abstract

Introduction: The premenopausal period causes many mental and physical problems in women due to hormonal changes. Education can be effective in adapting to this transitional period. This study aimed to assess the effect of health belief model-based training on the self-compassion and self-efficacy of premenopausal women. Method: This randomized clinical trialincluded 90 Iranian women (45 intervention and 45 control) in their premenopausal period (40-50 years old), referred to comprehensive health centers in 2021. The intervention group was trained in four sessions using Skype software based on dimensions of the health belief model. The primary and key secondary outcomes were self-efficacy and self-compassion, which were assessed using questionnaires three times: before, immediately, and one month after intervention. The data were analyzed with SPSS 27 using the ITT method. Result: The results showed that most women in each group were aged 45-50. According to the results, immediately and one month after the intervention, self-efficacy (MD(SDD):43.91(0.83);P<0.001), self-compassion(MD (SDD):59.46(0.83) ;P<0.001), or the total score of the health belief model (MD (SDD):58.12(0.81) ;P<0.001)were significantly different between the two groups . Conclusion: This study showed that the level of self-efficacy and self-compassion of premenopausal women increased after education based on the health belief model.
