Abstract

High blood pressure, a silent killer as it is often called, represents a major public health concern. A number of treatments are available, yet a large number of individuals fail to maintain proper blood pressure control. This highlights the need to find more effective ways for the prevention and supplementary approaches to the conventional therapeutic opions we have. This narrative review provides an overview of the available human evidence assessing various nutraceuticals showing potential in blood pressure control. A number fo essential elements, polyphenols, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics and bioactive compounds including coenzyme Q10 and L-Arginine show promising results. A summary of their physiologic effects and research evidence behind blood control is given for every component.
