Abstract

Traditional cosmological arguments are often thought to rely fatally on the Principle of Sufficient Reason. This paper develops a contingency argument that does not. To analyse certain metalinguistic statements, I employ a two-sorted first-order logic supplemented with axioms and predicates mirroring features of the QKB modal system. Within this framework, I formulate four axioms, each shown to be consistent and independent both from one another and from the PSR. I provide philosophical justification for each axiom and outline how, taken together, they entail the existence of a necessary entity.
