This article examines the status of sleep quality, length, duration, and sleep hygiene among Romanian students, specifically focusing on the presence of a sleep program during final examination periods compared to the rest of the year and the consequences of sleep deprivation. The study included 258 students aged between 18 and 26 years from various faculties in Romania. Findings revealed that the majority of participants recognized the importance of sleep hygiene and adhered to the recommended duration of sleep. However, a significant portion of participants reported using electronic devices before sleeping and consuming caffeine and energy drinks. Additionally, the study found that the COVID-19 pandemic and the demands of student life contributed to changes in sleep patterns and increased daytime sleepiness. Furthermore, participants reported experiencing temporary insomnia, emotional sensitivity, and decreased attention or comprehension due to insufficient sleep. These findings highlight the influence of certain habits on sleep quality in the lives of students and the subsequent impact on academic performance and overall well-being. The study emphasizes the need for increased awareness and adherence to sleep hygiene recommendations among students to improve their sleep quality and overall quality of life.
