Providing electricity to remote villages remains a major challenge, especially in off-grid areas. This study explores the feasibility of using photovoltaic (PV) solar energy as a sustainable alternative to diesel generators. A comparative analysis assesses energy accessibility, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact. The study focuses on a village in the Shariq al-Nil Khartoum - Sudan, where the absence of a centralized grid has led to reliance on expensive and polluting diesel power. Using MATLAB for simulations, Global Solar Atlas for meteorological data, and Homer for Hybrid system optimization, the research demonstrates that solar energy offers a more reliable and cost-efficient solution. The findings highlight the long-term benefits of solar power in supporting rural electrification, improving healthcare, education, and water access while reducing environmental harm. This study underscores the need for investment in renewable energy to enhance energy security and drive sustainable development in off-grid communities.
