Abstract

Background: This study aims to determine the parental attitudes and coping strategies of parents of adolescents admitted to a psychiatric clinic (2) Methods: Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The study population consisted of the parents of adolescents admitted to the Psychiatry Clinic of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Cebeci Hospital. A semi-structured interview form created by the researcher regarding information on parental attitudes and coping styles was used as a data collection tool. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data collected for the study and Maxqda 2020 program was used to analyze the data obtained. Results: According to the research results, 4 main themes and 13 sub-themes belonging to these main themes were identified: communication with the adolescent child, boundary rules within the family, parental attitude, and coping in the process of professional treatment and support. Conclusions: For a holistic treatment process, the need for family-based social work interventions that consider the needs of parents and provide guidance and further research in this field are discussed.
