Abstract

Starting in 1996 we elaborated New Interpretation (NI96) of Michelson's analysis of experiments from 1881/87 (MMX), related to discovery of the existence of Errors 1 and 2 (ER12) in MMX analysis, including in its model of two swimmers/boats contest (TSC), whose times equality outcome, contradicts current Physics textbooks (PTB), containing ER12. In this Article, a new proof of the correctness of NI96 is presented, on the basis of the symmetry of paths and times in TSC. The existence of a complete symmetry of paths and of times, in Phase 0 of the TSC, when the water velocity is zero, was presented in the Article. Then, the existence of a permanent symmetry regarding the times t1 and t2 in Phase 1, more general of TSC, when the water velocity is non-zero, was demonstrated in the Article. This was achieved by performing a new complex mathematical demonstration, for the case of the previously unused river bank (BF) reference frame. Therefore, according to NI96 the symmetric contest TSC ends in a tie, and the light fringes in the MMX should not have moved, as happened. Therefore, this new mathematical proof of TSC symmetry, represents new supports for the correctness of NI96, confirming ER12 presence in Michelson's analysis, so all PTBs require the TSC’s result and MMX’s analysis, to be corrected.
