The increasing risks associated with global climate change and its impacts on historical buildings, as well as urban and rural environments, have become a significant concern. In this context, historical rural landscapes—defined as interaction zones between human activities and natural processes—face substantial challenges due to climate change. Identifying these risks and developing effective strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change are of paramount importance. This study explores the application of ecological and sustainable approaches to protect historical rural landscapes, with a particular focus on permaculture—a design methodology that harmonizes with nature. The research aims to present a conservation framework tailored for the Barbaros Rural Settlement, situated in the Urla District of Izmir Province, and to propose a holistic restoration strategy to enhance its resilience to climate change.
