Abstract

This article proposes a comparative analysis of interartistic dialogues in selected works of literature for children and young people that contain elements of surrealism. The aim is to foster reflections on the dialogues between words and images that structure the works Tempo de voo (2016), by Bartolomeu de Campos Queirós and illustrated by Alfonso Ruano; Lá dentro tem coisa (2019), by Adriana Falcão and Lole; and As coisas de que não me lembro, sou (2022), illustrated by Raquel Matsushita, written by Jacques Fux. The three books present narratives that construct literary experiences that reject linear realism in favor of spontaneous poetic prose, a flow of thoughts, automatic writing, and dreamlike movements, which led their illustrators to produce surreal visual narratives with direct references to painters of the movement. The analysis, developed based on the selection of two representative illustrations in each book, seeks to demonstrate how these books operate within a reformulated surrealist logic, appropriate for young audiences, and how the articulation between text and image enhances the aesthetic, philosophical and symbolic experience of reading.
