Abstract

Hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor with high prevalence in Mexico. Therapeutic adherence is crucial for blood pressure control, yet non-adherence remains a significant challenge. This cross-sectional study evaluated antihypertensive therapeutic adherence patterns among 129 adults at General Hospital of Zone and Family Medicine Clinic No. 21 (IMSS) in Léon, Mexico. Using structured interviews and a validated instrument, we assessed sociodemographic factors, clinical parameters, and adherence levels categorized as Total, Partial, or Nonadherence. Results revealed suboptimal adherence in 62% of participants, with significant associations between adherence levels and age cohorts (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve adherence in hypertensive populations.
