Abstract

Multisensory integration constitutes a fundamental neural mechanism essential for understanding complex cognitive processes and variations inherent in neuropsychiatric and neurological conditions. Although multiple theoretical models exist to account for the computational processes underpinning this mechanism, there is an absence of a consolidated framework that facilitates the examination of multisensory integration across diverse experimental and computational contexts. We introduce Scikit-NeuroMSI, an accessible Python-based open-source framework designed to streamline the implementation and evaluation of neuro-computational models of multisensory integration. The utility of the framework is shown by modeling spatiotemporal causal inference at various analytical levels using Bayesian and network models of multisensory integration, addressing a critical research question of the field. We also offer recommendations for the enhancement of this software and propose directions for future research using this integrative methodology.
