Abstract

During a mpox outbreak in Kenya, 61% of patients suspected of infection tested positive for varicella zoster virus, which causes a rash similar to the mpox rash. Expanding laboratory capacity during the outbreak enhanced disease intelligence by confirming another etiology of rash among patients that tested mpox negative.
