Abstract

Candida albicans is a yeast of high medical importance. The genome assembly for the reference isolate, SC5314, has been available for many years and is displayed in a phased diploid format on a public website. New DNA sequencing technologies provide the opportunity to improve such assemblies by closing gaps, completing subtelomeric regions, and refining the differences between homologous chromosomes. Authentication of research resources is often a requirement for grant applications. To meet this expectation, we purchased the authenticated SC5314 isolate from the American Type Culture Collection and used it immediately to generate PacBio HiFi reads data sets. We used the data to create a draft phased diploid genome assembly that serves as a preliminary foundation for detailed work with the HiFi reads. These new technical resources provide considerable value for the research community.
